Tube-Town Review: Due to the smooth cone used in the 10" WGS Green Beret, its top end is much more subtle compared to the original 12" Celestion Greenback G12M, but also to the 10" Celestion Greenback. However, the midrange is not overemphasized and the whole speaker sounds full and balanced, with a distinct "American touch" to the overall sound.
We recommend the 10" Green Beret for everything from blues to rock to modern metal, but less so for blackface-typical clean sounds, for which there are better suited 10" speakers. In order for the speaker to develop its full sonic spectrum, it should be used either in an open cabinet or combo, or in a large-volume closed cabinet. A closed cabinet that is too small will dampen the speaker too much and cut the sound.
The WGS 10" Green Beret is also a real upgrade for many budget combos that are equipped with inexpensive 10" speakers and often sound a bit thin and sharp, especially when it comes to harder tones.

CERAMIC Vintage

The JENSEN® "C" series speakers were developed because the world's supply of cobal (Co in AlNiCo) slump, making this raw material more expensive. While ceramic magnets are larger in size than comparable AlNiCo magnets of the same gauss strenght, their cost is lower. As the frequency increases, the radiation of a loudspeaker is increasingly focused on its center. If the listener is in this beam, the sound is extremely harsh and biting; if one moves to the side of it, the sound becomes significantly darker and treble components are partially missing.
To reduce this behavior, a diffuser is used. This sits directly in the beam of the speaker and deflects the high frequencies very strongly, it breaks the "beam". This makes the sound much fuller and more balanced.
