The 10" that thinks it's a 12". This speaker was developed to recapture the legendary sound of Celestion's 1970s 10s - a 10" speaker with a surprisingly meaty tone.Low in output but with the weighty low-end balance of a 12", the G10 Greenback features a complex, creamy mid-range and smooth, vintage top-end.In small combos this speaker adds real class, and when combined in a 4x10 gives rise to a raunchy, full-bodied tone, rich in low-end thump.

Tested by Tube-Town: The Celestion 10" Greenback may not have the sonic range of its big brother - which is of course physically impossible - but it still delivers a full sound that is a bit more restrained in the highs than the 12" Greenback, making it sound rounder and softer in the highs, even with more overdrive in the sound.
All in all, the Celestion 10" Greenback is a true rock and blues speaker that we would use in open cabinets or combos to get the most out of the speaker. Do not use closed cabinets that are too small, as the speaker needs to breathe, otherwise the "British touch" that the speaker has will be lost. The 30 watt power rating also gives the speaker a bit more headroom than the 12" Greenback, making it a bit more flexible to use than the original.

Back in the late 60s, the G12H was created by fixing an 'H' type (heavy) magnet to the body of a G12M guitar speaker. Result: a speaker with more power and a different tonal balance: firmer bass and a more pronounced top end. So we added an 'H' magnet to the G12M-65 Creamback, create a speaker that delivers the sonic signature of a G12H combined with Creamback levels of power handling. These terms have become synonymous with a vintage American design that is known and sought the world over.  WGS now pays tribute to this classic with our WGS12L. However like all of our designs, we didn't set out to make a clone.  With this model we paid extra special attention to the details, producing a speaker that delivers that same even response without sounding sterile and lifeless.  Boasting a cast frame, 2.5" voice coil and a 200 watt rating, and clocking in at 18 pounds, this beast is loaded for bear.  As a welcome addition to the WGS fleet, this speaker is definitely our battleship.

Tube-Town's Quick-Test (as of Feb 2023):
Speakers with hemp cone have been around for years, but somehow they never really caught on. To our European ears they usually sound a bit muffled, sometimes even dull and also a bit lifeless, which is why the expectations for the Celestion Hempback were not particularly high, but the surprise was then all the greater.
The Hempack was tested in an open 112 REX powered by a TT JC18. The guitar used was a Tele with hot pickups. In this configuration, the speaker delivered wide and balanced sound right out of the box, no overemphasis or annoying frequencies.
The bass was clear, the Tele's low strings came through strong yet defined, the mids were round but not overbearing, and the highs were convincing with a pleasant yet restrained presence. And even at gain setting 10 there was no cause for complaint (as long as you didn't turn the treble control on the amp too far to the right). The sound was round and without sawing highs, but still had its own character and enough bite to assert itself in a band context.

Conclusion: In the environment specified by Celestion (open cabinet or combo), the Hempback can convince with a balanced sound image, and that with both clean and heavier sounds. It is fun to play it. The 50 watts of the speaker are perfectly sufficient for a variety of amplifiers and a sensitivity of 99 dB is not exactly little either, and the weight of 3.5 kg makes itself felt positively especially with combos, especially if you have to move them often.
So all in all: thumbs up.

Tube-Town Review: Due to the smooth cone used in the 10" WGS Green Beret, its top end is much more subtle compared to the original 12" Celestion Greenback G12M, but also to the 10" Celestion Greenback. However, the midrange is not overemphasized and the whole speaker sounds full and balanced, with a distinct "American touch" to the overall sound.
We recommend the 10" Green Beret for everything from blues to rock to modern metal, but less so for blackface-typical clean sounds, for which there are better suited 10" speakers. In order for the speaker to develop its full sonic spectrum, it should be used either in an open cabinet or combo, or in a large-volume closed cabinet. A closed cabinet that is too small will dampen the speaker too much and cut the sound.
The WGS 10" Green Beret is also a real upgrade for many budget combos that are equipped with inexpensive 10" speakers and often sound a bit thin and sharp, especially when it comes to harder tones.

Back in 1986 a new breed of hard rock player was on the rise.
