Back in 1986 a new breed of hard rock player was on the rise. Tube-Town Review: Due to the smooth cone used in the 10" WGS Green Beret, its top end is much more subtle compared to the original 12" Celestion Greenback G12M, but also to the 10" Celestion Greenback. However, the midrange is not overemphasized and the whole speaker sounds full and balanced, with a distinct "American touch" to the overall sound.
We recommend the 10" Green Beret for everything from blues to rock to modern metal, but less so for blackface-typical clean sounds, for which there are better suited 10" speakers. In order for the speaker to develop its full sonic spectrum, it should be used either in an open cabinet or combo, or in a large-volume closed cabinet. A closed cabinet that is too small will dampen the speaker too much and cut the sound.
The WGS 10" Green Beret is also a real upgrade for many budget combos that are equipped with inexpensive 10" speakers and often sound a bit thin and sharp, especially when it comes to harder tones.
